Plot

Here's my take on the plot. This will not just be a recap of what's dribbled through the info pipeline, but rather an ongoing story as new episodes air.

Ok, in 1999, Fry was an ordinary, laid-back pizza delivery guy, who some might call a loser... Unfortunately, while delivering to a cryogenics lab, he inadvertently gets frozen. Thawed out 1000 years later, in the year 3000, Fry has to adjust to life in the future. And the future is quite an interesting one! Earth is controlled by a single elderly woman known as "Mom".

Matt Groening's Take on Mom:

Mom runs Mom-Corp. She is this very scrawny elderly woman who wears a fat suit to make her look more lovable, and she is beloved across the world. She is very rich from manufacturing Mom's Old-Fashioned Robot Oil.

Robot oil, I assume is required to keep all the robots like Bender in working order. Also, thanks to the same cryogenic process that preserved Fry, almost all of today's celebrities are preserved as heads in jars. Leonard Nimoy's will guest-star in the first episode. When asked by Fry to do the "hand-thing", Nimoy glumly replies, "I don't do that anymore." Even The Simpsons is still on, creating new episodes. I wonder if the voice cast is preserved as well...

For you compulsive types who freeze-frame each The Simpsons episode, you'll be glad to know that Groening plans to include plenty of 'Freeze Frame Fun' and 'DYN's. In fact, a whole language has been created, so the really obsessive can read secret messages all over each episode. I can't wait to see what kind of messages Groening and the writers will send us!

Thanks goes to Greetings From The Year 3000!
